wedding ring design - techniques
Here is a brief listing of some fun techniques we can use in our studio, based on photos I have on hand. Remember, this is not an exhaustive list. . .just a tasting. |

Inlay - This platinum wedding ring has been engraved and is ready for an 18k white gold inlay. The high melting temperature of platinum allows us to melt gold into a recess for easy and fun inlay technique. We can make palladium wedding rings the same way. |

Inlay - This ring was made from a different inlay technique. White gold is harder than yellow gold, so the design was cut out and rolled into the yellow gold. |

Casting - these bull horns were carved out of wax and cast in silver. For people who want outrageous wedding rings or finely sculpted designs, casting allows for this type of form and detail. |

Casting - this ring could be made by rolling a hot set screw around the outside of a wax ring. The resulting pattern would then be cast. |

Planishing - The term goldsmith is derived more from hammering than jewelry design. Planishing hammers are excellent and fun tools for beginners to make a variety of design enhancements to simple wedding rings. |

Stone setting - you can enhance your wedding rings with small stones. Flush settings don't take very long, and some simple pave techniques are accessible to beginners. |

Alloy - some folks like to play with fire. If you want to alloy gold to make your wedding rings the way artisans did it before the commercial jewelry era, I can show you how. |
